The famous and mythical Yellow Emperor, Huang Di, would have been living 5.000 years ago. His book, the Nei Jing, is seen as the foundation of acupuncture philosophy and principles. Those who are acquainted with a translated version know that this book is a play of questions and answers between the Yellow Emperor and its’ court physicians.

Huang Di was the first one that collected all the knowledge compiled in a book, the Nei Jing. Huang Di was preceded by a less known Emperor, Fu Xi. The basic principles, applied in modern days by acupuncturists, were developed by Fu Xi.

Fu Xi is also known as the Red Emperor, while the name Huang Di means Yellow Emperor. The colour red is used as a metaphor for the phase fire and yellow stands for earth. Within ancient Chinese philosophy fire stands for heaven, while yellow stands for earth, and these two metaphors are part of the so-called heaven – earth – man concept. This concept describes the creation of the Universe and all its components. The term man is given the colour blue within this concept. Lán Dì is Chinese for Blue Emperor.
